Justin Benttinen

My first decent photograph.

As a kid, I'd line up interesting ways to look at things to amuse myself such as aligning dots on the windshield of the family car with objects as they'd pass. I'd also create little visual worlds just for myself, taking photographs with my mind. 10 years ago I realized that I could share my unique vision of the world with other people after a fortuitous Christmas present from my family. 10 years later it is my life.

My photography is informed by my lifelong love of the natural world (I have my bachelor's in marine biology) as well as my goal to deepen my understanding of other people. This has enabled me to tackle a wide variety of subjects without

I don't believe in specialization of content, only specialization of skills. I'm equally at home photographing rare books in the studio or rare plants in the field. I've shot protests and historical events for The Guardian as well as intimate portraits for both clients and friends. Life is much too short to do the same thing every day, and I aim to ensure that I seldom do.
